BAIKAL SPRING
This spring expedition at lake Baikal is a real highlight for divers, nature lovers & photographers.
In spring the weather is often perfect: blue skies and little to no wind make this tour a relaxing and impressive experience for everzbody. Start of the tour is in Irkutsk, from here it goes along the river Angara to the banks of the Baikal, where the M.Y. Valeria is waiting for us in the fishing village Listvyanka. The route of our expedition takes us on the Baikal from the south to the middle to Olkhon & Ushkany and to some of the best dive sites the lake has to offer.
Lake Baikal measures over 1,600 meters at its deepest point, making it the deepest and, with 25 million years, the oldest freshwater lake in the world. Another amazing special with this lake is the unique flora and fauna: About two-thirds of the approximately 1,500 animal and 1,000 plant species are endemic, that means they occur exclusively here. Surprisingly, many fish and shrimp species, as well as sponges were also able to adapt to a life in deep water and are even to be found at a depth of 1.6 kilometers.

Important information - diving
In the summer months Lake Baikal is ice-free. The diving now takes place from the ship, which will bring you to various dive sites directly. The space is limited on board a ship. Therefore, it is important that not everybody starts to gear up at the same time. For this reason, we will prepare for the dive in two groups, which will start a little time-delayed.
A dry suit is highly recommended, even in summer. The water temperatures in May and June still is at 3 to 5°C (37 to 41°F) and will go up in summer and late summer to over 15°C (60°F) in sheltered bays. In the depth the water stays cold all year.
On board steel tanks (12 and 15 liters) with DIN double valves are available. They can also be used with adapters (available) with INT/Yoke regulators.
